The Potential of a Good Book – The Sunday Salon
This morning, my friend Henry is sleeping over; Henry is 5. My friends Zoe (7) and Ian (5) are also here, as are their parents. Most of us are still sleeping, but Henry was kind enough to help me with my post today.
When I asked him what his favorite book was, he said, “Magic Tree House #30.”
“You haven’t read that book yet?” his mom said.
“I saw it in Barnes and Noble. It has a sword and a big serpent.”
Henry’s answer wasn’t exactly what I was looking for when I asked him the question, but his response to address something really important about reading – the anticipation of a good book.
I have read some books this week, but to be honest, Henry’s answer got me thinking about all the books I have that I want to read. So here’s the five books that are taunting me from my shelves.
Flight by Sherman Alexie
The History of White People by Nell Irvin Painter
Native Guard by Natasha Tretheway
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Death of Adam by Marilynne Robinson
This list could be much, much longer, but I don’t want to get myself too worked up with excitement.
What books are you looking forward to reading?
