Mud: My Nemesis

It makes my feet heavy, and so I walk around like the priss I have never been, all tentative in my steps, eager to keep my feet clean aIMG_0922nd dry.  Mud free.

It is January 2, 2013, and I am starting this new year as a farm owner.  I have waited 15 years to say that . . . and yet, today, when there are sticks to gather and trash to pile. When I could be ordering seeds for garden beds and pricing our fence posts to keep goats contained, all that I can think about is how muddy it is.

I feel I might need to become more readily accustomed to being muddy and dirty.  I did not know I was not accustomed to such.

 – an excerpt from what may be the first chapter of my new book about the farm.
