The Dulles Expo Center is not exactly the most exotic or aesthetically-pleasing place to hold a show about these gorgeous homes . . . and yet, Philip and I learned so very much, including that Meander can, indeed, have her own timber frame dog house.
To sleep in here, Meander would have to give up her spot in our bed. Not sure that will happen.
We also learned about the steps in the process of building – start with a budget, find a designer, find a builder, etc. . . The show was so very helpful and enlightening – particularly when it comes to the complexity of these projects AND the uniqueness of each home.
This weekend we learned that we can do this – we can build our dream home. It will take a lot of work and effort and planning and time, but we can do it. And we hope to get the ground broken for our home in the next year.
We’re also going to try to build our barn in 2014, so this is a BIG YEAR. (I’ve never been one to go slow and steady when it comes to dreams, and God bless him, I married a man who is the same way.)
So stay tuned for lots of updates about who we choose as builders, to see copies of the site plans and designs, to hear our woes about the way big equipment tears up our baby grass, and to see pictures of Meander greeting every crew member on the farm.
It’s going to be a big year with animals arriving – chickens first, goats second, a barn raising, and the ground-breaking for our dream lodge. We can’t wait to share this with you.
