Hoping for Spring
Yesterday, we got a beautiful 6 inches of snow. The air was thick with flakes for most of the day, and while I am – as is most of Virginia – ready for Spring, it’s hard not to revel in such soft loveliness.
Today, the air is warming and already, the front porch – thick with ice just this morning – is clear and dry. Perhaps we have seen Winter’s encore after all.
Which is good for us here on this little patch of land at the edge of the Blue Ridge because we need to be about some farming. I have nary a seed in the ground yet, and in just two and half weeks, 16 little bundles of fluff will arrive to take up residence in our recycled pallet brooder.
I’ve been watching the images of friends and their newborn kids . . . keeping my eyes peeled for the myotonic lovelies and pygmy cuties we still want to find. (Let us know if you have any leads in the VA area.) We’re just a few steps away from being ready to start our own herd – a little wire on two more gates, the wood-burned dedication plaques so many of you have given, the shelters for both goats and dogs (in our American West theme), and then the critters themselves. Yippee!!
So if this could be our last snow, both Philip and I would appreciate it. We have some work to do.
If you’re ever in the area, please let us know. We’d love to see you and give you a little tour . . . and if you’re in the mood for a little work, we’d love the help, too.
Don’t forget to check out our Events page. We’d love to see you for our Spring Bash on April 16th. 🙂
