So this morning, I came across this infographic at the right. To say I’m a little discouraged might be an understatement. While I have read and enjoyed most of these books – Napoleon Hill not withstanding – it kind of makes me sad that The Da Vinci Code and Twilight outpaced greats like Beloved or even Shakespeare. Sigh.
However, the competitive part of me is glad that I have read 7 of the 10 titles. Those that I have not read:
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung -I actually didn’t even know this title existed, which is sad, perhaps. But I would read quotes from Chairman Mao.
- The Alchemist – I’m skeptical that I even need to read this book given how many times it’s quoted. 🙂
- Gone with the Wind. I have no desire to read this book that – from all accounts – is stereotypical, trite, and racist. But maybe I’m wrong?
And you? How many of these titles have you read? Which did you love? Loathe? Which do you still want to read? Which are you not interested in at all?
I’m going to return to the “Top Ten Books” lists on Fridays here, but I could use your help. What categories of books would you be curious to learn more titles in – books about cats, books set in Highland Scotland, books that take on issues of race or class? I’d love to get your suggestions, and I’ll do my best to gather a list of those titles in the future. Thanks.
