I love all the goals I see people setting for reading this new year. Goodness, I’m just glad to see so many people reading. I love reading challenges (this one from Modern Mrs. Darcy is especially appealing) and reading plans and TBR lists. I love it all.

But this year, beyond the very broad and ominous goal of reading 100 books, I’m not setting any specific goals for 2015. I am, however, going to set a few reading intentions.
- I want to read more books by people of color and people who are from other parts of the world. My reading is far too white and far too North American.
- I want to read more books in translation. Since much of the world does not speak English, I’m hoping that this intention will help me read more broadly.
- I want to read the books I already have on my shelves. I own a lot of books, and I haven’t read many of them. While I still want to buy books and borrow books from the library, I also want to honor those books I have already chosen.
That’s really about it. I’m hoping that come December I’ll be able to say that my reading is deep and broad, diverse and open – because if I can, I will be richer for it.
