When Friends Write – My Week in Books

One of the greatest things in my life is when friends write books.  I love seeing them accomplish something they’ve been working on for a long time, and I love celebrating their work with my time and with a quick review.  (Reviews really do matter, if you were wondering.) Write Right's Emergency Hope Kit

This week, I started reading books by two friends – Even in Darkness by Barbara Stark-Nemon, which comes out in April and Write Right’s Emergency Hope Kit by Erin Feldman.  Both books speak of hope, the way we work ourselves toward it, even when the shadows are close.  I’m just beginning each of these – filling the pages of Erin’s book with my own thoughts on hope and disappearing into the villages of Barbara’s books.  Great works, both.

I’m still reading Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward, and I’m well into the story now.  The book is compelling because of the world it depicts but also because of the beauty that the protagonist gives to a life that many might describe as ugly or squalid.  Powerful, powerful writing.

In just a bit, when I jet off to the Special Collections library at UVa to do a little research on a historic rural school, I’ll be spending more time with Tana French, too.  Goodness, this Audible subscription is awesome.

My reading pace has been slower this week, but I’m working away – trying to reach my 100 book goal by December 31st.  Must. Read. Faster.

How about you? What are you reading this week?
